Ex-unit 8200 alumni sell Elementary Data for Some $45 million

The startup, founded in 2021 and having raised just $8.5m. until now, is joining American company Boomi. The product enables data teams to spot failures in real time and prevent business errors.

American enterprise data and integration firm Boomi has acquired Israeli data-monitoring startup Elementary Data for $45 million, the company announced on Monday. This marks Boomi's second Israeli startup acquisition this year, following its purchase of Lunar.dev in July for an undisclosed sum and Rivery in December 2024 for $100 million.

Elementary Data's platform monitors data and its processing workflows, offering quality control, data usage management, and an information catalog. Data teams utilize it to detect and address failures before they impact business reports, models, and AI agents. The company was established in August 2021 by Unit 8200 alumni Maayan Shalom, CEO, and Or Avidov, CTO and Head of Product.

By the end of 2022, Elementary Data had raised $8.5 million in funding from investors including TLV Partners, Cowboy Ventures, Y Combinator, and private investors, which facilitated the hiring of 17 employees in Israel. Under the acquisition, the team will remain with Boomi, which aims to expand its operations in Israel.

Elementary Data's technology started as an open-source tool that integrates with data teams' workflows, and in 2024, it launched the commercial product, Elementary Cloud. The technology is utilized by over 1,500 data teams, and the open-source tool has seen more than 1.1 million downloads per month, with a community of around 4,000 members. The commercial product and open-source project will continue to operate within Boomi.

Elementary Data's platform identifies anomalies in data freshness, volume, and quality, tracking the data's path and changes down to the column level. This enables teams to pinpoint where failures originated and which systems are affected, ensuring AI agents make accurate decisions and perform actions within the organization without causing widespread erroneous execution.

The acquisition will enhance Boomi's control over data reliability throughout the organization, both in data warehouses and during data movement between applications and systems. Maayan Shalom, Elementary Data's CEO and co-founder, emphasized the importance of data reliability in the AI era, stating, "When AI agents perform actions rapidly based on data, the entire organization depends on data reliability.

Boomi's global deployment and a network of over 800 partners will enable us to make reliable data the default in the AI era. We are just at the beginning of the road."

Steve Lucas, Boomi's chairman and CEO, added, "Trusted artificial intelligence begins with trusted data. Elementary adds data monitoring, quality control, and usage management tools to our platform. These tools ensure that our customers' AI systems and agents operate on data upon which decisions and actions can be based in the organization. They also enable understanding where the data came from and what it means."
