Titans’ Carnell Tate opens up on emotional tribute to late mother after TD vs. Colts

In a thrilling Week 6 victory, the Tennessee Titans secured their first win of the season against the Indianapolis Colts. Wide receiver Carnell Tate played a pivotal role in the triumph, contributing 70 yards and a touchdown in a close 26-20 win.

The emotional highlight of the game occurred when Tate paid tribute to his late mother, Ashley Griggs, who was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting in Chicago in 2023. As he scored the touchdown, Tate blew a kiss to his mother in honor of her memory. Tate shared his feelings about the tribute in postgame comments to ESPN’s NFL Nation, stating, "It felt good…I’ve been doing that at the collegiate level, it finally feels good to do it at the NFL level."

The Titans' defensive unit was equally impressive, swarming Colts quarterback Daniel Jones and sacking him six times. Head coach Robert Saleh led his team to their first win of the season, finishing with 102 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Titans' defense continued to dominate, as they swarmed Jones and limited his effectiveness, contributing to the team's 26-20 victory.

Looking ahead, the Titans have a home game against the Cleveland Browns on October 25. The Browns have a 4-2 record, but their recent performances have been lackluster, with most games ending in close victories. If Titans quarterback Cam Ward and wide receiver Carnell Tate can maintain their strong performances, the Titans may experience another big win in the upcoming week.
