Tata Trusts hit back: Counters trustee claims before Charity Commissioner

The Tata Trusts have responded to allegations made by their own trustees, Venu Srinivasan and Vijay Singh, before the Charity Commissioner. The response was filed on October 19, following an extended deadline. The Trustees of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT), part of Tata Trusts and the largest shareholder in Tata Sons, refuted the claims of governance lapses, exceeding its charitable mandate and interfering in Tata Sons' commercial affairs.

The controversy has deepened amid reports of Tata Sons reviewing the Articles of Association ahead of their proposed IPO. The case involves internal disputes, governance issues, and the exercise of authority within the Tata Trusts, which hold significant influence over the Tata Group through their 27.98% stake in Tata Sons, alongside the Sir Ratan Tata Trust with a 23.56% stake.

The intervention before the Charity Commissioner has brought these disputes under regulatory scrutiny, raising questions about governance and decision-making within the trusts and their relationship with Tata Sons.
