Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve reuniting for Fjord was not a given
Renate Reinsve says that director Christian Mungiu was "a little bit skeptical" about tapping the stars of A Different Man for his film Fjord .
Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve have recently teamed up for two films within a three-year span. The first was Aaron Schimberg's 2024 A Different Man, followed by Christian Mungiu's 2024 Palme d’Or winner, Fjord. While Reinsve believes Mungiu was initially skeptical about pairing her with Stan for Fjord due to the stark differences between the two films, she ultimately felt that their contrasting styles and characters made the collaboration rewarding.
Reinsve describes A Different Man as "very theatrical," which required her to use her emotions to drive the narrative. In contrast, Fjord is a darker, more subdued film in which Mungiu "strips away" the emotional manipulation, forcing the actors to be more restrained. Despite the challenges, Reinsve and Stan found trust in their working relationship, which enabled them to create a unique cinematic experience.
