Putin proposes summit with Trump and Xi to discuss Ukraine deal, WSJ says

Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested holding a summit in the coming month with US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to discuss an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine that would be beneficial to Moscow, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The proposed meeting emerges as relations between Trump and Putin have improved, particularly following Trump's announcement of a deal to purchase Russian diesel and his issuance of an order waiving certain sanctions against Moscow on Friday.

The WSJ reports that Putin introduced the idea during a telephone conversation with Trump on October 9, which also resulted in the diesel agreement between the two nations. No immediate response from the White House or the Kremlin was available to Reuters at the time of publication, and embassies of Russia and China in Washington did not provide a prompt comment.

The Kremlin has indicated that the trilateral dialogue could take place outside the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
