Nico Williams’ agent finally explains failed Barcelona move in 2025
Barcelona’s inability to provide guarantees over Nico Williams’ registration derailed the proposed move in the summer of 2025, his agent, Félix Tainta, has finally revealed.
Nico Williams' agent, Félix Tainta, has finally explained why the proposed move to Barcelona failed in the summer of 2025. Despite Barcelona's interest in the Spanish international, the move never materialized due to Barcelona's inability to guarantee Williams' registration under La Liga's financial regulations. Tainta revealed that negotiations took place between Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao, where Williams was playing at the time.
However, the club was unhappy with Barcelona's actions. According to Tainta, Williams refused to take the risk of not playing, likening it to a Formula 1 car scenario. He emphasized that if he moves into a new team, he shouldn't inherit their problems. Tainta concluded that the lack of guarantees made Barcelona unwilling to take the risk, leading to Williams staying at Athletic Bilbao, where he has become a key player.
