The Anti-Hijacking Team from the Ehlanezi District in Mpumalanga recovered the vehicles and a truck over four days.
In a collaborative effort, the Mpumalanga police, alongside private security firms, vehicle tracking companies, and other law enforcement agencies, conducted intelligence-driven operations to recover seven suspected hijacked vehicles. The Anti-Hijacking Team from the Ehlanzeni District made the arrests over the course of four days.
Among the recovered vehicles were a white Isuzu, a white Toyota Quantum, a white Toyota Prado, and a silver Mercedes-Benz. The Isuzu was reported stolen in Gauteng, while the Toyota Quantum and Prado were allegedly hijacked in Gauteng. The Mercedes-Benz was found abandoned in Kanyamazane after being stolen in Calcutta.
In addition to the vehicles, a City Logistics H-100 truck carrying furniture was hijacked on the R40 in Bushbuckridge before being recovered at Inyaka Dam. However, the valuable goods inside the truck had been stolen.
A suspect, aged 44, was arrested after the hijacking of a truck fitted with false registration plates. He will face charges, including possession of a suspected stolen/hijacked truck, at the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court. Despite these recoveries, some suspects remain at large, and police continue their pursuit.
The provincial commissioner of the South African Police Service (Saps) in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, praised the success of the anti-hijacking strategy demonstrated by the swift vehicle recoveries and emphasized the importance of continued operations to hold suspects accountable.
