Hamilton Southeastern High School claimed their first boys tennis state title on Saturday, defeating No. 6 Delta 4-1 at the Barbara Wynne Tennis Center. It marked Hamilton Southeastern's first final appearance, with the championship match also being their first ever. The Royals achieved the milestone with two freshman and a sophomore on the singles roster, with Abhi Manikandan, Parker Stump, and Evan Holderman contributing to their victory.
Stump, who previously played singles, switched to doubles with best friend Logan Foust, proving to be a winning strategy. Manikandan's individual performance was crucial, as he won both his first two matches, improving his season record to 24-1. The Royals had previously lost to Carmel in the semifinals last year, but this loss served as a turning point, fueling their determination and focus.
Delta, on the other hand, finished the season with a record of 24-3, acknowledging their special team members and their strong performance throughout the season.
