Mamponghene warns against Galamsey, destructive sand winning at Akrofonso

The Paramount Chief of Asante Mampong, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, has issued a stern warning against illegal mining and unsanctioned sand extraction at Mampong Akrofonso. He emphasized the necessity of safeguarding the community's lands and water sources for sustainable growth. During a three-day visit, he urged the community to utilize the available land for productive ventures, creating jobs and enhancing livelihoods instead of activities that harm the environment.

The chief, who assumed his role with confirmation from Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, vowed to reform the community and prioritize the welfare of its people, especially the youth. He also appointed Nana Baffour Gyimah Ankoana as the Mampong Akrofonsohene, entrusting him with the task of identifying land for the establishment of handicraft enterprises to generate employment for young people.

The chief stressed that environmental protection should be at the forefront of the community's development plans, advocating for the preservation of water bodies to ensure their sustainability for future generations. Nana Baffour Gyimah Ankoana highlighted the potential of the region's land for investments in education, healthcare, and industry, asserting that the youth have the capacity to significantly contribute to the community's progress if provided with the right opportunities and support.
