Lorry driver held after container crushes car, killing father and daughter

Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia - A 49-year-old lorry driver has been detained following a tragic incident where a container crashed onto a car, resulting in the death of a father and his 24-year-old daughter near Sepanggar Port. Mohd Jadi Pelbi and his daughter, Norfaieza Mohd Jadi, were inside their Toyota Avanza when the container fell on the vehicle around 6:15pm.

The Kota Kinabalu police chief, Assistant Commissioner Shahrudin Mat Husain, stated that the container lorry had stopped on the side of the road to load a container when its load became unstable, causing it to fall to the right and crush the victims' car while they were traveling on the right lane. Both victims were trapped inside the vehicle and were rescued by firefighters at 9:55pm.

They were pronounced dead by medical personnel from Likas Hospital at 9:58pm. The lorry driver has been detained to aid the ongoing investigation, which is being handled under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Anyone with information regarding the incident can contact Inspector Brymenedren Godon at 010-7768802 or visit the nearest police station.

Firefighters utilized two cranes to lift the container and free the car, an operation that took over three hours to complete.
