(LEAD) Lee meets chief of World Bank for talks on cooperation in AI, energy

President Lee Jae Myung met with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga on Monday to discuss potential areas of cooperation, including artificial intelligence (AI) and energy, according to Seoul's presidential office. The meeting took place at Cheong Wa Dae as Banga is currently in South Korea to attend the Global AI and Digital Summit, organized by the World Bank Group in collaboration with the country's finance and science ministries.

During the opening of the meeting, Lee expressed his hope for enhanced global cooperation on AI, stating, "We highly appreciate the global contributions the World Bank has made so far, and we will try to make greater contributions to what the bank does." The World Bank chief emphasized that his visit to South Korea also aimed at discussing strategies for industrial development through meetings with the president, South Korean government officials, and corporate representatives, with the goal of creating jobs and mobilizing private-sector resources.
