Apu returns to The Simpsons with a new voice

Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, the beloved convenience store owner from Springfield, has returned to The Simpsons. He made his grand entrance in the Halloween-themed episode "The Revengening," voiced by Sunil Malhotra, an accomplished actor known for his roles in Fallout and Halo. Apu's return was met with some controversy due to his troubled past and the character's problematic origins.

Malhotra, despite initial hesitation, agreed to voice the character after discussions with the showrunners. The episode sees Apu being wrongly killed by various Simpsons characters before making a dramatic return, clad in a Daft Punk mask, to exact revenge. The return brings a sense of nostalgia for long-time fans while also addressing the character's complex history and the importance of representation.

Despite the mixed feelings surrounding Apu's portrayal, Malhotra's involvement brings hope for the character's future development and a fresh perspective on the beloved figure.
