Kelabu Polis Temerloh, Nasyim Bahron, revealed that 17 locals aged between 20 and 60 were arrested during an operation spanning from October 12 to the present. In Kuantan, the police successfully dismantled four gangs involved in samun (bribery) and cable theft from East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) and Telekom Malaysia (TM) through several operations around Temerloh and Mentakab since October 12.

Over the past month, two ECRL cable storage incidents and five TM cable theft cases were reported in Temerloh, Mentakab, and Lanchang. A total of 17 local men, aged 20 to 60, were detained in the operation, causing estimated losses of RM75,000 to ECRL and TM. The first gang, known as Geng Ravi, was apprehended through an operation from October 12 to October 15.

Investigations found that the group was also involved in several wire and cable theft cases at abandoned projects and old factories since July this year, along with tracking down two remaining suspects who are still at large. On October 14, they successfully apprehended Geng Kepala, believed to be involved in several TM cable theft cases at a TNB storage depot, factories, and roadside sites near Mentakab since August.

One 28-year-old man from Geng Dany was detained today for allegedly stealing TM cables, as well as Geng Dany allegedly operating similar activities around Kuala Lumpur. Investigations revealed that suspects admitted to being involved in several TM cable theft cases along roadside ditches and poles in Temerloh, Mentakab, Jerantut, and Maran since July.

The leader of the group was previously known to be a member of Geng Kepala, detained on October 14, while one more suspect remains at large. The police also seized several vehicles, including a truck, along with ECRL, TNB, and TM cable pieces, iron poles, various stealing tools, and processed cables. According to the police, all detained suspects are being questioned in relation to Section 395, Section 379, and Section 431A of the Criminal Procedure Act, as well as Section 235(2) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
