Three talking points from Betis 2-5 Barcelona

Barcelona secured their ninth consecutive La Liga win of the 2026/27 season in a dramatic match against Real Betis at Estadio La Cartuja. Lamine Yamal put Barcelona ahead early on, followed by goals from Rodri, Gabriel Jesus, Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo, making it an action-packed affair. Here are three key talking points from the game.

Firstly, Gabriel Jesus' performance highlighted why he remains an important member of the team, even without a successful summer transfer from Arsenal. Despite consistent injury issues that had marred his Arsenal career, Jesus was lively and determined against Betis, ultimately scoring a goal that was crucial to Barcelona's victory. His goal came after one had been disallowed earlier in the match, adding to the poetic justice of the performance.

Secondly, Joan Garcia's playmaking was another standout aspect of Barcelona's victory. The former Espanyol custodian proved to be the perfect sweeper-keeper for the team, helping to neutralize Betis' attacks and preventing more goals from being scored. Garcia's ability to command his area and make crucial saves was vital in making this win easier than it might have been, given the quality of Betis' squad.

Lastly, Karim Adeyemi's performance served as a reminder of the tough decisions that manager Hansi Flick will have to make in the coming weeks. Despite showing glimpses of his potential, Adeyemi's finishing, passing and overall attitude fell short of the required standard for a first-team player. His lackadaisical attitude and inconsistent performance make it clear that he needs to step up his game consistently if he is to secure a starting position in the team.
