Rajinikanth pays tribute to late music director Deva, calls him ‘pure gold’

Tamil cinema icon Rajinikanth has mourned the passing of music director Deva, hailing him as a paragon of honesty, generosity and exceptional character. The actor paid his respects to Deva in Chennai following the composer's death, recounting their professional collaboration and personal qualities that made Deva remarkable.

Rajinikanth highlighted Deva's contributions to three of his successful films, Annamalai, Baasha and Arunachalam. Speaking of a pivotal moment during the shooting of Padaiyappa, Rajinikanth recalled Deva's support when the actor opted for AR Rahman, expressing delight over their previous works together. Praising Deva's character, Rajinikanth emphasized his struggles early in life, supporting his four younger brothers through musical performances, even after achieving success in the film industry.

Deva had maintained close ties with his family, and continued to pursue his own musical identity and success despite Ilaiyaraaja's dominance in the industry, Rajinikanth added. Deva was set to return to live performances following a successful concert comeback, expressing happiness about his overseas concerts and hoping to live another decade, Rajinikanth noted. The actor expressed his sorrow at Deva's demise, extending condolences to his family.
