Former MLB pitcher John Smoltz recently discussed the Milwaukee Brewers' shocking four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series. Smoltz, who was a broadcaster during the series, told Flippin’ Bats with Ben Verlander that the Dodgers' failure to score runs was a significant issue. He stated that while age might have played a role, it was primarily a defensive problem.
The Dodgers struggled to hit with runners in scoring position and missed three straight innings where they could have tied or taken the lead. Smoltz acknowledged the Dodgers' pitching efforts, but emphasized that they were not good enough to overcome the Brewers' all-around talent. Despite the Dodgers' strong batting, Smoltz believes the team has questions to answer in the offseason. However, the Brewers will represent the National League in the World Series.
