Dancing with the Stars has suspended pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy for one week following controversial remarks he made toward judge Carrie Ann Inaba on TikTok. The suspension comes after Chmerkovskiy posted a TikTok referencing Will Smith's famous 2022 Oscars incident, in response to Inaba's criticism of his wife Jenna Johnson, another pro dancer on the ABC reality show.
The show's producers, BBC Studios, stated that Chmerkovskiy's social media post was "inappropriate and does not reflect the values or standards expected of anyone connected with the show." As a result, he will not participate in next week's show. Chmerkovskiy later issued a statement, admitting he made a "poor decision" and expressed regret for causing Inaba distress.
He emphasized that his intention was never to distract from the show or his dance partner Jenna Dewan, who will dance with Alan Bersten in a dance dedicated to her mother during Dedication Night.
