Agrobank lancar program buru ikan asing di Tasik Ampang Hilir

Agrobank, the Malaysian agribusiness conglomerate, has launched a new program aimed at combating the invasion of foreign fish species in Tasik Ampang Hilir. This initiative, spearheaded by Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin, Chairman and CEO of Agrobank, seeks to preserve the native fish species and maintain the balance of the lake's ecosystem.

The program, titled "Aquatic Farming Conservation: Mitigating Inland Fishing," involves around 250 participants from seven agencies and organizations, including 43 Agrobank employees.

The main activities of the program include capturing foreign fish using nets, traps, fishing nets, and sieves provided by the Fisheries Department. As part of the conservation efforts, Agrobank will also release 1,400 baby native fish back into the lake, consisting of 1,100 baby silver catfish and 300 baby river catfish. This initiative is crucial, as 94.8% of the 154 fish species recorded in Tasik Ampang Hilir are foreign species, with only eight being native species, including catfish, drum, murrel, and silver pomfret.

The program is a part of Agrobank's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development and Environment, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Aquaria KLCC, TCE Tackles, and the Malaysian Freshwater Anglers Association. The involvement of the corporate sector highlights the importance of collaboration between the government, private sector, and civil society in preserving the environment.

Over 30 activities, including this one, are being carried out by the Fisheries Department to help restore the balance between native and foreign fish populations in the lake and its rivers.
