Preparations for 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia 'progressing according to schedule'

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia announced that preparations for the continental tournament are progressing according to schedule, despite ongoing security concerns in the region. The LOC confirmed that work on venues, facilities, and supporting services is on track, with the tournament scheduled to take place from January 7 to February 5, 2027.

Recent attacks in Saudi Arabia, including incidents at airports, have led to the postponement of various events. These include the Six Kings men's tennis tournament and the FIFA Esports final, both of which were originally set for October. Additionally, three matches in the Saudi Pro League have been rescheduled to later in the season due to logistical considerations.

The AFC, the governing body of Asian football, has been open to the possibility of delaying the Asian Cup until 2028 if necessary. However, AFC President Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa stated that the confederation is not in a hurry to make such a decision, as the situation in the region can change rapidly.

The KFA, the Korea Football Association, expressed that they are closely monitoring the situation in Saudi Arabia and plan to continue discussions with the AFC regarding the tournament's developments. Despite these challenges, the LOC remains committed to ensuring the successful delivery of the 2027 Asian Cup.
