Police remove Rivers DPO after station renovation by suspected cultists

Two senior police officers, including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Abuloma Police Division in Rivers State, have been removed from their positions following allegations of suspected cultists renovating a police facility under their jurisdiction. The other officer oversees a nearby police outpost. The incident came to light after a viral video emerged on October 15, 2026, showing suspected cultists celebrating the completion of the renovation on Thursday.

The state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, announced these developments in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Blessing Agabe. The police command condemned any action that could compromise the integrity, discipline, and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force, or grant legitimacy to suspected cult groups or other unlawful organizations.

The command has ordered a full investigation into the incident, examining the circumstances surrounding the renovation, the veracity of the allegations, and the identities and backgrounds of those responsible. The investigation will also assess whether the renovation project was authorized, whether proper procedures were followed, and if any police officers violated professional standards or compromised the force's integrity.
