Cross River: Police arrest three more suspects over electricity materials theft

The Cross River State Police Command has apprehended three more suspects in connection with the alleged theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure in Calabar. Peter Adie, the primary suspect, was first arrested for the vandalism of electricity infrastructure at Agbo Ntoe Layout, Boulevard Road 2, off Parliamentary Extension, Calabar.

Following Adie's arrest, police expanded their operations to the Murtala Mohammed Highway, near Pepsi, and a dumpsite in Calabar's Harbour area. Initially, five individuals were detained for questioning over their suspected involvement in the alleged theft and receipt of electricity materials. However, two of those suspects, Yakubu Musa and Emmanuel Hope, were eventually released after investigators found them not guilty based on preliminary investigations.

The three additional suspects currently in custody are Tochukwu Nwogwu, Boniface Egede, and Mustapha Isa Aliyu. Both Adie and the three recently apprehended suspects remain under police custody as the investigation proceeds. Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, announced that the command is actively pursuing relevant leads to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged offense and the specific roles of the suspects involved.

Commissioner of Police, Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, reiterated the command's dedication to safeguarding public infrastructure and cautioned against vandalism and the unlawful acquisition or possession of stolen electricity materials. The command encouraged residents to provide credible information that could assist the investigation and to report any suspicious activities to their nearest police station.
