Security operatives, including the Department of State Services, military, and police, apprehended five suspects in connection with the kidnapping of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members in Imo State during Nigeria's 66th Independence Day. The suspects were captured after intelligence-led operations in Rivers and Abia states between October 10 and 14.
However, three other suspects managed to escape with gunshot injuries, triggering a large-scale manhunt for them. The operations took place in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Aba South Local Government Area of Abia State. The abducted NYSC members were rescued on October 7 during a joint security operation in Amakohia Ubi Village.
This significant development marks a major breakthrough in tracking down the perpetrators, dismantling the criminal network responsible for the abduction, and bringing those involved to justice.
