Apple and Meta have teamed up to integrate Meta's advanced AI model, Muse Spark Open, directly into Apple's Mac computers. Meta designed the model specifically for Apple computers. The company has announced a new open-source model, Muse Spark Open, which will bring advanced AI to Mac Studio. According to Meta, Spark Open is their most capable open-source AI to date, following their announcement earlier in the week that they had reached the frontier of AI with the launch of their high-end AI model called Muse Wonder.

Meanwhile, Apple demonstrates with this partnership their continued advancement in AI, largely thanks to their agreements with leading AI labs such as Google and now Meta. The agreement has caught the attention of the press and analysts as it is a partnership between two technological rivals. Both Apple and Meta have engaged in disputes over the manufacturer's policies on applications running on their devices, with Zuckerberg's company also poaching talent from Apple while introducing devices to directly compete with Apple's products, such as AR glasses.

Mark Zuckerberg stated that the partnership between the two companies has been made possible by the collaboration with Apple's new CEO, John Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook on September 1st. Ternus also noted on X that it was impressive to run a model of Muse Spark Open's caliber and scale so efficiently directly from the desktop.

"Mac Studio continues to push the limits of AI on the device!" Meta has returned to open models following its Llama family. Specifically, Muse Spark Open is a multimodal native model with 816 billion total parameters and a 1 million token context window. It was designed jointly with Apple and is optimized to run on Mac Studio with M5 Ultra.

According to a Meta press release, it was designed for coding and working with agents, excelling in long-term tasks, complex software engineering, and multi-step reasoning. We believe the future is for everyone, including the freedom to run advanced models anywhere, even at home. Muse Spark Open is the first of its kind to run on your desktop computer using two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studios with the latest MLX framework, the company explained.

Muse Park Open is available to everyone worldwide on Hugging Face under the Muse Model License, which allows many developers to use it for free, although it includes certain limitations.
