Veteran Nigerian actor Kola Olaiya has criticized fellow actor Pete Edochie over claims regarding seniority in the Nigerian acting industry. In a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, Olaiya accused Edochie of pride and lack of recognition for earlier theatre practitioners. Olaiya pointed out that prominent figures such as Hubert Ogunde, who began his theatrical career in 1944, predates Edochie's entry into acting.
He also mentioned other influential figures like Oyin Adejobi, Duro Ladipo, and Kola Ogunmola, questioning Edochie's claims to seniority based on his regional prominence. Olaiya emphasized that Nigeria's acting history extends beyond the careers of actors who gained prominence in the English-language film industry, highlighting the importance of acknowledging contributions from earlier theatre practitioners.
