Saksi kata tak pertikai akidah sendiri selepas tonton ‘Mentega Terbang’
Yamna Ismail, yang membuat laporan polis terhadap 'Mentega Terbang', filem itu tidak menyebabkan dia terpesong akidah.
On 28th November 2021, the controversial film "Mentega Terbang" was broadcasted before the Minister of Interior banned it on 1st September 2023. A witness for the prosecution, Yamna Ismail, testified in the High Court that the film did not cause her to question her Islamic beliefs. She had already studied reincarnation (reincarnation) from other sources, including books, films, and anime, before watching the film.
During cross-examination by defense lawyer Zaid Malek, she confirmed that she remained a Muslim after watching the film. Zaid asked if the film could cause anyone to stray from their faith, to which Yamna replied, "No." She only spoke on behalf of herself and couldn't speak for others in the community. She also disagreed with Zaid's suggestion that the film couldn't mislead the Muslim community because it discussed reincarnation.
Earlier, Yamna testified that the film touched on issues such as faith, reincarnation, suspicion, double standards regarding Islam, and religious comparisons. During today's proceedings, she didn't agree with Zaid's claim that she reported the police to protect Islam, not because the film offended her. However, when Zaid referred to his police report, she changed her answer and agreed with his suggestion.
She also admitted to not using the word "offended" in her report. Zaid further questioned her claim that she watched the entire film on 26th February 2023. When asked about the platform used to watch it, Yamna said she watched it on YouTube using her mobile phone. Zaid proposed that the film was not available on YouTube on that date, to which Yamna agreed.
Neither Khairi Anwar Jailani, the film's director, nor Tan Meng Kheng, the producer, were answered when asked if she had given false testimony. Khairi, 34, who also wrote the script, and Tan, 39, were charged on 17th January 2024 under Section 298 of the Penal Code for intentionally wounding religious sentiments of others. The film was broadcasted on 28th November 2021 before the Minister of Interior banned it on 1st September 2023.
Assistant Crown Prosecutor Nor Azizah Aling and Nadia Izhar appeared on behalf of the prosecution. The proceedings before Magistrate Heng Yi Min continued on 25th January of the current year.
