Prince Harry and wife Meghan make first joint appearance since UK return

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their first joint appearance since returning to the UK in August, visiting Nottingham on Thursday. Meghan expressed delight at being back, saying: "It's great to be back." The 45-year-old and her 42-year-old husband were warmly received by the crowd, who cheered as they arrived and engaged with the public by posing for photos, offering hugs, and accepting gifts.

Their visit to Nottingham was part of a tour to support three charities focused on young people and local communities via music, film, sport, and combating food insecurity.

The royal couple's return to the UK has put them at odds with Buckingham Palace, which has clarified in a recent letter that they are akin to private citizens with charitable interests rather than public figures. The King of the United Kingdom, King Charles III, emphasized that they should not be addressed as His and Her Royal Highnesses. Harry and Meghan, known formally as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, last appeared together in Britain at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.

During their visit, Meghan was seen embracing a woman and kissing her on the cheek after receiving a gift. Harry, dressed in a dark suit and white shirt, engaged with a young audience, expressing his enjoyment of seeing everyone. The royal siblings, Harry and Prince William, remain estranged, with the latter residing in California with his family.

Meanwhile, King Charles III visited Wales and addressed the Welsh Parliament, where he was met with chants of "Not my King" and "Down with the Crown" from anti-monarchy protesters.
