MHTC, Maybank partner to expand access to Malaysian healthcare across Asean
The multi-year partnership will connect Maybank customers across the region with Malaysia’s healthcare services, with plans to expand into more markets from 2027.
Malayan Banking Bhd and the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) have partnered for a multi-year agreement to enhance access to Malaysia's healthcare services for customers across Southeast Asia. The collaboration aims to connect Maybank’s widespread customer base in the region with MHTC's network of healthcare facilities and support services.
The partnership builds on joint participation in MH WellFest Cambodia 2026, where Malaysian healthcare professionals delivered health talks and consultations. Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore have been identified as priority markets for the initiative's expansion in 2027.
MHTC CEO Suriaghandi Suppiah emphasized that while Malaysia currently has 91 MHTC-accredited healthcare facilities, access to these services is equally crucial. He highlighted that patients must navigate unfamiliar healthcare systems, manage costs, and arrange for family members, making access as important as the quality of care.
Maybank's CEO of community financial services, Syed Ahmad Taufik Albar, stated that the collaboration aligns with the bank's efforts to cater to customers whose needs transcend conventional banking. As Maybank's customer base becomes more mobile across Asean, the bank is well-positioned to address these evolving needs. The partnership supports Malaysia's Year of Medical Tourism 2026 and the health ministry's goals to strengthen the country's status as a preferred medical tourism destination.
