Lawyers for Liberty have lodged a complaint against Penjara Kajang, a prison housing 5,000 inmates, alleging serious water shortages and inadequate sanitation conditions. The Johor Regional Police Department is currently investigating the allegations of water supply disruption, sanitation issues, and food provision at Penjara Kajang following a report by Lawyers for Liberty.

The police department stated that they are examining the complaint to ascertain the true situation and ensure that each raised issue is given appropriate attention. Improvements are prioritized to address any identified weaknesses, particularly in basic facilities, cleanliness, and the well-being of inmates.

According to Prison for Liberty, the prison's 5,000 inmates are facing difficulties in bathing and using the toilets due to a slow water flow, with some inmates unable to use the toilet for two days. The group also claims that each inmate receives only one liter of drinking water per day, raising concerns over the provision of contaminated food and unsatisfactory cleanliness levels.

Consequently, they have urged the government and prison authorities to promptly address the issues and ensure inmates receive sufficient clean water and impeccable sanitation facilities.

The Johor Regional Police Department emphasized that they always prioritize the welfare, health, cleanliness, and safety of inmates, including ensuring that basic needs are met in accordance with regulations and procedures. They also advised the public to refer to their official channels for accurate and verified information, rather than speculating or spreading unverified news.
