India News Live Updates, 15 October 2026: Double murder in Thrissur as man kills wife, 4-year-old son
Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann pledged the harshest penalties for those responsible for the murder of activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, as protests over the incident continued in Mansa. Jhota's father Bhim Singh condemned the administration and called for a statewide strike on October 15, garnering support from opposition parties, farmer unions, and the SGPC.
Following Jhota's fatal shooting, police arrested the suspect, pharmacy owner Ashwani Kumar from Rajasthan. The family has refused to allow cremation of Jhota's body. Security in Amritsar was heightened in response to the statewide shutdown demand.
