Manchester City suffered a 4-2 defeat against Paris St Germain, marking Enzo Maresca's first loss as City boss. The defeat came after a dominant first-half performance by PSG, who scored three goals in quick succession. Maresca's side, however, displayed remarkable resilience in the second half, with Erling Haaland scoring twice and becoming the fastest player to reach 60 Champions League goals.
City finished with more shots and touches in PSG's box, recording a higher expected-goals figure at both halftime and fulltime. PSG's manager Luis Enrique admitted to the team's luck, stating they were "quite lucky today." Maresca emphasized that City deserved more despite being down 3-0 at halftime, attributing their second-half performance to a lack of balance.
The loss added to the turmoil surrounding City, who are facing multiple breaches of Premier League financial rules and have denied wrongdoing, appealing the verdict. Despite the defeat, City remained three points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table ahead of their home game against Ipswich. Maresca expressed regret for the first half's performance, stating that the team needed to maintain their run in the Premier League.
