Cops nab couple after hour-long Melaka chase, seize meth

Yesterday, police in Melaka apprehended a couple and confiscated a small packet they suspected contained methamphetamine, following a one-hour high-speed chase. Chief Halim Abas of Melaka Tengah police informed that the suspects, a 39-year-old man and 32-year-old woman, were driving a Proton Saga when they were pulled over near an apartment block in Tengkera at 7.20pm.

The man allegedly began to drive erratically, even running against traffic on several major roads in Melaka. In response to police orders to halt for a check, he fled the vehicle and escaped on foot. The suspects abandoned the Proton near a mosque in Kampung Sungai Putat before being apprehended. Police discovered a transparent plastic packet containing what they believed to be methamphetamine inside the vehicle.

Both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine in preliminary urine tests. Background investigations revealed that the man had eight prior convictions, including seven for drug offenses, while the woman had 11, including ten for drug-related charges. Both were remanded in custody for four days to allow for further investigation.

Social media was flooded with a video showing three police patrol cars giving chase to a vehicle driving against traffic near the Pantai Hospital intersection in Ayer Keroh.
