Three doctors sent abroad for PhD did not return home, Sindh PAC told

Karachi: A review of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) by Sindh Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has revealed that three doctors, who completed their PhDs abroad on a federal scholarship worth $129,600 each, never returned to Pakistan. The doctors studied in China, Germany, and the United Kingdom in 2016.

According to Vice-Chancellor Dr Nusrat Shah, a petition has been filed in court to recover the cost, but the doctors’ whereabouts remain unknown. The university will auction the surety land pledged by the doctors once the legal matter is resolved. The PAC has also directed the university to notify immigration authorities and embassies regarding the missing doctors and recover the full amount spent on their education.

Additionally, the committee discovered that a nursing lecturer, Fareeda Badar, had been awarded a fake degree, leading to demands for the recovery of her 10 years' salary.
