Roma tifo with tribute to Mourinho on Champions League return

Roma fans filled the Stadio Olimpico with an electrifying atmosphere for their first Champions League home game in seven years, paying tribute to the returning Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho. The Giallorossi's passionate supporters were eager to celebrate this historic occasion, as they had not participated in the tournament for seven years.

The match kicked off with a 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce, but the true spectacle unfolded at Stadio Olimpico. The fans showcased their love for Mourinho by displaying a vivid tifo before the game, featuring the Latin phrase 'Sin-Metu' which translates to 'Without Fear.' This powerful message set the tone for the evening, sending a clear signal that Roma fans would face Real Madrid with courage and conviction.

As the match progressed, a large banner was revealed in Curva Sud, dedicating its message to Mourinho. The banner read, "Whoever brings glory to Roma, will always be honoured by Roma... Today your hands consecrate the rich spoils and the people tribute you with eternal glory." This heartfelt gesture acknowledged Mourinho's contributions to Roma, including his Conference League triumph and Europa League Final appearance before his dismissal in January 2024.

Amidst the captivating atmosphere in the stands, several flags bearing Mourinho's likeness were unfurled, including one depicting him holding the Conference League trophy. The display of support was further enhanced by additional banners around the stadium, which Mourinho could see and appreciate during the match. These displays of affection were a testament to the strong bond between Mourinho and the Roma faithful.

Among the tributes, one banner specifically referenced Mourinho's controversial Europa League Final defeat in 2023. It read, "In Budapest you defended us all the way to Hell, welcome back Jose, eternal Romanista!" This poignant message highlighted Mourinho's unwavering loyalty to Roma and the admiration he continues to garner from the fans, even after his departure from the club.
