Real Madrid's Mourinho has 'trust' in referees despite complaints
ROME: Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho said Tuesday he has faith in officiating in Spain and in Europe despite his heavy criticisms of them this season.
Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho expressed confidence in referees during a pre-match interview ahead of their Champions League game against Roma. Despite recent criticism of officiating in Spain and Europe, Mourinho stood by his belief in the officials. He declined to attend the obligatory post-match press conference following Real Madrid's 1-0 win over Villarreal, protesting the disallowed goal and red card shown to Vinicius Junior.
Instead, Mourinho turned his attention to the upcoming match, stating he has "the best feelings about the referees" before both La Liga and Champions League games. Aurelien Tchouameni, a Madrid midfielder, echoed Mourinho's sentiments, expressing frustration over decisions that went against the team. The 63-year-old coach also reflected on his time coaching Roma, praising the fans and the club's European success.
