Negeri Sembilan JPJ impounds four luxury cars driven by unlicensed foreigners

Seremban, October 14 — The Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department (JPJ) has impounded four high-end automobiles driven by non-citizens in an operation fighting foreign motorists who break road transport rules. State JPJ director Jasyindar Singh Sihdu revealed the cars included a Toyota Vellfire, two Mercedes-Benz A250s and a limo-style BMW, driven by Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Chinese and Myanmar nationals in their 30s.

"The drivers were arrested for lacking valid licences or insurance, while their vehicles also lacked valid road tax," he declared at a news conference at the JPJ Seizure Depot. Out of 3,741 vehicles operated by foreigners in Negeri Sembilan from January to October this year, 498 were seized under the Foreign Driver Operation (Op PeWA).

JPJ issued 2,422 summonses and recorded 288 notices under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which allows authorities to seize vehicles under specific conditions. Of the seized vehicles, 313 were motorcycles, 149 cars and 36 were for transporting goods. The drivers traced their origins to Pakistan, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh and other countries.

Many allegedly used their vehicles for work, like peddling baked goods and ice cream, or operating lawn mowers. Most of them were driving without proper licences and had expired road tax. Last year, JPJ inspected 4,811 vehicles and took action against 746, issuing 3,287 summonses and recording 301 notices under Section 64(1).
