Man gets over 8 years’ prison for forcing 3-year-old to eat faeces

In a recent ruling, a Tripura court handed a life sentence to a 30-year-old man for the heinous crime of raping and impregnating a 17-year-old girl. The incident took place in August 2021 in Khowai district, where the victim, a Class 11 student, sought tutoring from the accused at his residence. According to police, the man sexually assaulted the girl when his children were away playing and again when she was home alone.

He threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone. The survivor experienced abdominal pain in September but could not seek medical help due to her upcoming exams. Medical tests conducted in December revealed she was pregnant. A complaint was filed by the survivor in December 2021, leading to the arrest of the accused under IPC sections 376(1) and 506, as well as the POCSO Act.

The case was presented to the court, which found the man guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment in January 2022. If he fails to pay a fine of ₹25,000, he faces an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment. Other recent high-profile cases include the conviction of a man who sexually assaulted a woman with physical and mental illnesses in Unakoti district and the 14-year sentence given to another man for raping a 15-year-old girl.

Additionally, a hostel warden was recently sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor student in North Tripura district.
