GFA and Sports Ministry must not rush Black Stars head coach appointment – Nana Fitz

Veteran football administrator Nana Fitz has advised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) against hastily appointing a new head coach for the Black Stars following their poor performances in recent qualifiers. This recommendation arises after Carlos Queiroz abruptly stepped down amid Ghana's disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The team suffered a 2-0 loss to Côte d'Ivoire in Bouaké, followed by a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia on home soil.

Subsequently, the GFA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports formed a five-member search committee to examine, interview, and shortlist potential candidates for the vacant position. The GFA set October 15 as the deadline for applications. However, Ghana is set to face Somalia in a consecutive qualifier this November at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Nana Fitz, popularly known as Nana Fitz, urged football authorities to exercise patience throughout the hiring process despite the increasing pressure to improve the team's performance. He emphasized that the next head coach must possess profound knowledge of Ghanaian football, its distinct obstacles, and the cultural backdrop surrounding the national team.

According to Nana Fitz, the GFA must appoint an individual who genuinely comprehends our local football environment, the country's football philosophy, and the realities of the available resources. He argued that such understanding would enable the new coach to adapt swiftly and achieve the anticipated outcomes. Presently, the Black Stars occupy the bottom spot in Group C without any points.
