13 arrested over illegal street trading in Lagos

Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has arrested 13 individuals for engaging in street trading in unauthorised locations across the city, including Festac, Mile 2, and Ikorodu. The arrests were made during enforcement operations conducted between October 12 and October 13, 2026, according to a statement released by LAWMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Mukaila Sanusi.

The agency’s Managing Director and CEO, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, emphasized that roads, walkways, medians, road setbacks, and other public spaces must remain clean and accessible, warning traders against using such areas for activities that interfere with their intended purposes. LAWMA urged traders to conduct their businesses only in designated and approved markets, with the aim of restoring order, enforcing environmental regulations, and preventing the obstruction of public spaces.
