On October 13, Apple refreshed its lineup of smart home products without holding an event. The new devices include the Apple HomeView, an upgraded Apple TV 4K, and a revised HomePod mini. The $299 HomeView is a new device that functions as a central hub for smart home apps, widgets, and personalized content for up to six individuals.
The $149 HomePod mini features a faster chip and new color options. Both the HomeView and HomePod mini incorporate Siri AI functionality. The HomeView will not be available in the European Union. It requires an iPhone or iPad to access certain AI features. For privacy, HomeView includes several features to protect user data. The wall-mounted version of HomeView is more affordable but offers fewer features.
HomeView supports guided recipes and hands-free timers in the kitchen and comes in four colors, while the wall-mounted model has just two colors. The HomeView's audio hardware allows it to dim to Apple's lowest display brightness. Additionally, HomeView can run third-party apps from iPhones or iPads. The upgraded Apple TV 4K now includes microphones for Siri, enhanced internal storage, a faster A19 chip, and Wi-Fi 7 support.
It is priced higher, with the 128GB model costing $299. The new Apple TV 4K will also support Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features. An updated Siri remote is available for $59 and is compatible with the new Apple TV 4K models. Older Apple TV 4K models will gain Apple Intelligence and Siri AI compatibility. The new Apple TV 4K adds far-field microphones for hands-free Siri functionality and supports surround sound through four HomePods.
It also introduces 14 additional features compared to previous models. The HomePod mini, priced at $149, features Siri AI, Sound Glow technology, and four-speaker surround sound. Apple notes that the HomePod mini will not support Siri AI immediately. Videos for HomeView, Apple TV 4K, and HomePod mini are available on Apple's website.
Apple has also launched the Apple Home Collection, which includes cameras, locks, thermostats, and more. Additionally, ADT will offer in-home installation services for Apple's new HomeView and other products.
