US actor Selma Blair charged with assault after alleged flight altercation

U.S. actress Selma Blair was arrested on Monday after allegedly assaulting flight attendants and a police officer on a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to New York City, according to court documents. Blair, known for her roles in "Legally Blonde" and "Cruel Intentions," was detained upon landing at John F Kennedy Airport on Sunday. She allegedly punched and bit two flight attendants, and subsequently assaulted a police officer and nurse while being transported to a hospital.

Blair was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and pleaded not guilty, being released on bail. The next hearing is scheduled for January 19. The FBI also issued a summons accusing Blair of the in-flight assaults, according to a federal judicial source.

Blair's representative stated that the actress experienced a medical emergency, leading to the alleged conduct. She received immediate medical attention upon landing and is currently in stable condition. Delta Air Lines issued a statement expressing "zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior," emphasizing the safety of customers and crew as their top priority.

In 2016, Blair was removed from a plane on a stretcher after an outburst during a flight. She later revealed in her 2022 memoir that she had bitten several celebrities, including Kate Moss, often in situations involving alcohol consumption.
