Updated HomePod mini 2 comes with new colors and surround sound option

Apple has unveiled the HomePod mini 2, a refreshed version of its entry-level smart speaker that debuted in 2020. The upgrade includes new color options, a more powerful chip, a glowing LED that can match album artwork colors, and a future Siri AI update. The price has increased significantly, from $99 to $149.99 in the US, a 50% jump since the original release.

The HomePod mini 2 is available for preorder and will begin shipping on October 30. In the UK, it will cost £149, and in Australia, AU$229. The speaker's appearance remains similar to its predecessor, with a flat top and bottom and the same size and shape as a tennis ball. New color choices include Green and Pink, while Yellow and Orange are no longer available.

The HomePod mini 2 features an improved S10 chip, which enhances performance and connectivity for better latency when used as a speaker with a Mac or for surround sound setups with other HomePods. A future Siri AI update will bring more personalized features to the speaker, but this update is expected to arrive in the future. The speaker's top LED now precisely matches album art colors, creating a visually appealing effect similar to the iPhone's Dynamic Island.

The HomePod mini 2 maintains its impressive sound quality, powered by a full-range driver and dual passive radiators, and can be paired with other AirPlay speakers or the HomeView for a surround sound setup.
