The Best Street Fighter Anime You've Never Seen
The latest Street Fighter movie is hurricane-kicking its way into theaters on October 16 — but did you know there was a critically acclaimed animated film that came out decades before it?
In 1994, Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie held its ground before the 2026 movie release. This animated film surpassed the live-action counterpart featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia, which is better known to the public. Unlike the game's World Warrior tournament, the animated movie dives into Bison's plot to capture strong warriors using cyborgs for personal gain.
Featuring exceptional fight sequences, the anime stands out for its accurate portrayal of Street Fighter's colorful characters, such as Ryu, Ken, Guile, Chun-Li, and Bison. The movie includes blood, nudity, and subversive humor, providing a stark contrast to live-action adaptations. The 1994 animated movie remains the best among the animated films and series, offering a must-watch for any Street Fighter fan. It can be found on Crunchyroll, Pluto TV, and Amazon Prime Video.
