Utah Jazz guard Darryn Peterson exhibited an NBA-level work ethic and maturity long before joining the team. Former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, who met Peterson through his son Alijah during USA Basketball in 2023, described the young guard as "a professional, professional." Arenas was impressed by Peterson's discipline, noting that he was already offering advice on keeping his side of the room clean and avoiding distractions.
Peterson's approach to basketball, including organizing mini-workouts and arriving early for team bus rides, showed that he was treating the sport as a profession. These qualities have carried over to his NBA career, where he has been praised by Utah's veterans for his maturity and work ethic. Veteran center Jusuf Nurkić described Peterson as having an "NBA mentality" and that he is "nothing but great" so far.
Head coach Will Hardy has also noticed Peterson's professional approach, noting that he has a detailed routine and is a fast learner. Peterson acknowledges the physical jump to the NBA, but is determined to compete and make his mark in the league.
