Muslim man, mother detained for allegedly performing non-Islamic religious ritual

A 21-year-old man and his 51-year-old mother were taken into custody by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) in Kuala Lumpur, according to reports. The arrest took place in the city of Kuala Lumpur, with the suspects identified as Aliff Daniel and his 51-year-old mother. The Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) announced the detention, citing an arrest warrant issued by the Shah Alam Syariah Lower Court.

Director Mohd. Shahzihan Ahmad of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) revealed that the department plans to summon at least 14 additional individuals for assistance in the ongoing investigation. The two suspects are currently being probed under Sections 4 and 10 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995, with JAIS emphasizing the importance of adhering to the law and jurisdiction during the investigation.

Director-General of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee confirmed that coordinated efforts between state Islamic religious authorities and law enforcement agencies were underway following the viral spread of social media videos allegedly depicting Muslims engaging in non-Islamic religious rituals.

Jakim has also forwarded reports related to the matter to the respective state Islamic religious departments for further review and investigation. The public is urged to refrain from speculating or disseminating unverified information regarding the case, as JAIS views the matter with seriousness and will ensure that all actions taken are based on the facts and applicable laws.
