Mourinho: “If you had more than one Fede Valverde, he would play at full-back, out wide and in midfield”
He spoke before playing his former club, AS Roma
Real Madrid coach José Mourinho, during a press conference before the UEFA Champions League match against AS Roma, discussed his use of Fede Valverde as a right-back. Mourinho mentioned that the Real Madrid manager handled the situation with Valverde well in the previous match against Villarreal, as he had found the right profile for the position.
He also expressed his belief that if he had more than one Fede Valverde, he could play him in various roles, including full-back, winger, and midfield. Mourinho clarified that he would only do this because they only have one Fede Valverde, making his playing at right-back an exceptional move. Regarding the referees, Mourinho said he trusts them all, except for the rule of knowing their names, which he finds suspicious.
He also addressed how he connects with fans, stating that he strives to be himself and consider the interests of the club, players, and fans before his own. Lastly, Mourinho downplayed the significance of the upcoming match against AS Roma, treating it as just another game.
