Meta has announced the availability of smart glasses for the Malaysian market, collaborating with EssilorLuxottica to integrate this technology into their Oakley and Ray-Ban brands. Four types of glasses were unveiled during a preview event. Two models under Ray-Ban are the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) and Ray-Ban Meta Optics (Gen 2). For Oakley, the smart glasses are named Oakley Meta Vanguard and Oakley Meta HSTN.
The key difference between the Gen 2 and Gen 3 models lies in their features. Both models boast a 12MP camera on the left side capable of capturing 3K video, a right-side LED privacy indicator for recording confirmation, and a six-microphone array to enhance voice recognition. Users can activate the AI assistant by saying "Hey Meta" and can ask it a variety of questions, such as seeking local recommendations, translating conversations in real-time, managing messages, setting reminders, capturing images and videos, and more.
A customizable physical button and an on-off switch are also present on the frames. While the battery capacity for both models remains undisclosed, Meta has assured that they can last over eight hours. The Gen 3 model is expected to have a nine-hour battery life.
