KPDN teliti Akta Kawalan Harga bendung ‘ulat tiket’

The Malaysian Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) is investigating Section 15(1) of the Price and Anticartel Act 2011 to determine legal avenues for establishing a specific framework to curb ticket scalping activities. Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh stated that the research also includes examining legal provisions in other countries, such as Australia, Ireland, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore, to identify suitable approaches tailored to Malaysia's needs.

Currently, Malaysia does not have a specific legal framework addressing ticket scalping activities comprehensively.

The investigation aims to be finalized before regulations related to the issue are brought to the implementation stage in the coming year. The measures focus on defining scalping, regulating ticket purchases through platforms, and establishing identity verification for buyers and ticket holders. Additionally, the feasibility of strengthening the existing price control mechanism and the appropriateness of the antitrust mechanism are being considered.

Minister Fuziah responded to a question from Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) regarding the investigation into drafting a specific law to address ticket scalping activities. While the specific law is being developed, KPDN will continue to advocate for user protection and engage with event organizers to promote more transparent ticket-selling practices, including clear presentation of purchase terms and conditions to users.

The ministry hopes that implementing the regulations will provide a more suitable mechanism to handle ticket scalping activities while strengthening user protection in ticket purchasing.
