Gender Ministry supports four siblings allegedly sexually abused by father

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection visited four girls receiving care at a safe shelter in response to an alleged case of sexual abuse by their father. The visit, conducted on behalf of Minister Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, was led by the Director of the Domestic Violence Secretariat, Malonin Asibi, along with other Ministry staff.

The team evaluated the girls' progress since being placed in protective care and reviewed their welfare and emotional recovery. Caregivers reported that the girls are currently attending school and showing improvements in their emotional well-being, with some reduction in initial trauma symptoms as they receive psychosocial support.

A donation was presented to aid the girls' upkeep at the shelter, and the Minister expressed gratitude to the caregivers for their dedication and commended the shelter for its ongoing support to the children and others under its care. The Minister also acknowledged the roles of the Judiciary and Ghana Police Service in the case and called for its swift resolution to enable the girls' eventual reunification with their mother, pending legal procedures and assessments.

The Director recommended counseling for the mother to support the family's continued engagement and safeguard the children's wellbeing. The girls appreciated the Minister's concern and reassured her of their safety and comfort at the shelter.
