Education Minister assures teachers of salary adjustments by October 16

The Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has assured teachers that outstanding promotion-related salary adjustments will be paid by October 16, 2026. The payments are part of commitments made to address concerns raised by three pre-tertiary teacher unions, whose nationwide industrial action has been suspended following talks with the government.

Iddrisu visited the Osu Presbyterian Cluster of Schools in Accra to oversee teaching and learning following the teachers' return to the classroom. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to fulfilling the outstanding obligations to the teachers, highlighting that administrative processes, including record validation, are being carried out to facilitate the payment of these adjustments.

Iddrisu also mentioned that further validation is required to determine eligibility for the proposed 20% deprived-area allowance and to identify qualifying geographical areas. He acknowledged the financial and social constraints associated with implementing these commitments but expressed readiness to engage the unions to resolve outstanding issues.

The Minister acknowledged the teachers' return to the classroom as a significant step towards restoring stability in schools and ensuring continuity in academic work, noting that schools have reopened nationwide.
