DARQ DAGR, a dubstep musician and voice artist, has gained popularity through a unique genre called "smutstep." This style of music combines dubstep beats with erotic lyrics, specifically catering to the BookTok community. Smutstep emerged as a response to BookTok, a subculture within TikTok built by book lovers who enjoy the romantasy genre.
This genre features high fantasy and dragon-based erotica, like the books The Fourth Wing and A Court of Thorns and Roses. James, the creator behind smutstep, sees it as a way to let people embrace their interests in a safe and healthy space. He emphasizes the importance of accepting and respecting one's own craft and audience, even when facing criticism.
